What is a maintenance and cure claim?

Video Transcription:

If you’re a crew member serving a board of vessel in navigation and those were the key words of vessel and navigation, you are entitled to what’s referred to as maintenance and cure. Maintenance is a daily living allowance that will allow you to find a hotel room, an apartment or living accommodations. An allowance to allow you to buy meals, three squares a day as we say.
Cure, on the other hand, is the medical treatment that your injury requires. As a crew member, you’re entitled to both maintenance and cure regardless of fault. Whether it’s your fault or the employer’s fault, you are entitled to your maintenance and cure benefits.
